Brutal cover by MatesLaurentiu Brutal cover by MatesLaurentiu
This is the cover book for a rules book for the upcoming game Brutal. I can't tell you much about it as I don't know much myself. I do hope you'll like it anyways. :D

Some textures used on the helmet and on the face (for the pores (although I don't know if they show in this resolution)

I was trying to find the Brutal game, but you wouldn't believe how huge amount of results the search on brutal games gave :D
Anyway.. no matter the brutality, I like it a lot  I enjoy the brass-like color of his helmet, holes for better air circulation and I really love the display with the infrared collimator :wow: What brings me shivers of this your painting isn't only the scratches, cracks, golden teeth and scar on upper lip, but mainly the notches of helmet below and so close to his eyes.. can't explain why, just the feeling :) You did perfect work here again
Ehm, he slightly reminds me one painter, if he would be in a very, very mad mood :D

Well, if I remember well, Brutal Games is the company, not the game. But I honestly don't know, I don't always keep in touch with all my projects although this is a long time client. For the whole image I was asked realism and I had to work in textured to give it an extra push. In the high rez image you can see even the pores of the skin. :)

Yes, I see it, but here is already a comment appreciating it, so I didn't want to repeat ;) His whole face looks realistic - the mentioned pores, wrinkles, eyes with eyelashes, reflections on teeth, his beard.. great work with the texture on his helmet too :P
It's not often that you can paint close-ups, right? And you proved, you really CAN do it :deviation:

I have to say the client had a big hand in it pushing me further than I would usually go. I don't use textures in my work unless that extra push of realism is requested and insisted upon.

I don't see anything bad on using textures.. the art is how to apply them :camera: Your work is more to the traditional way and you could just as easily be an oil-on-canvas painter :painter: But digital technology gives new possibilities, so why not to use them.. if wisely and moderately ;)

I'm more like "Look, this whole image was done by hands alone". And since I started making my own custom brushes, I kind of close up to that expectation of mine. :) But no, I don't think using texture is wrong in any way. Its just one of my quirks. :D

That was pretty much the idea. This was one of many of some kind of steam punk gladiators.

I don't usually use textures in my work but considering this was a close up, textures proved very useful.
