Okay, while I work on new stuff, I thought to post this one here. You know Elenuial, its not a new piece. I just reworked it for a D&D campaign so she can be a vampire. So I took out the daggers, made her clothes dark and went and did a number on her skin and face for a more goth like appearance. I originally slapped a lot more blood around her mouth and dripping on her round bosoms but the image was way too grim for what they needed to this was just the perfect level of gruesomeness.

Well, It would be good to know, how grim it was, but this picture (and the original version) both just fantastic :)

There was more blood around her mouth and also some on her chest and clothes. I think being a vampire is a messy job unless they have a fly sucker instead of a mouth. I imagine them being quite feral and not very elegant while feeding.

That's exactly my thinking :) A vampire can't be "sexy" and "nice" all the time, it's a bloody job they doin'

Its not only the bloody work, its the fact they have to stick very close to their victims after they draw blood. Seems this train of thought doesn't go well with the spiffy, sparkling image of the modern vampire (while the old approach to the myth had no problem with it). So in this way I'm more old school when it comes to vampires.

Too bad most people think it's the sparkly twilight way of things :D Maybe a little drop of blood on the corner of the mouth and that's it... Good to know that there are still people thinking the "old school" way :)

I still think vampires are predators, not romantic immortals. A predator never acts clean and its attack its always vicious and fast. Now, unless the vampires act like mosquitoes and you only feel the after bite...I prefer them vicious and bloody. :D But that would defeat the purpose of them being fast and strong, isn't it?

I totally agree with you, but why couldn't they have the power with it to be fast and strong? They still need to Prey upon mortals whatever they feel during the feeding. And if they strong and fast, they can't be that cautious not to mess up their clothes
:D

If they are indeed fast and strong there might be some drawback. You can't have so many good things (immortality, strength, speed, the power to hypnotize their victims, polymorphism) without trade back. Sunlight isn't enough and their sensibility to garlic its something to consider as an inherited allergy (possibly even fatal if you consider vampirism a disease and that garlic is a mild antibiotic). The fact that initially vampires where presented as solitary creature, living outside communities might imply some kind of crowds phobia. Also, wild roses seem to have a strong effect on them. All the cross and holy water thing came way later, and I don't think they are based on anything but hearsay from the local priests to empower religion. As for messing their clothes, if you consider the way a vampire feeds, its not that easy to do. They would attack from behind since its most advantageous for the bite as well as a strategy since it ca make the victim powerless faster, using the victim's body as a shield. Blood would spurt forward or sideways most probably leaving the vampire clean (if the blood sucker would allow such a waste). Add to that the fact that most old myths and legend attribute vampire attacks towards women and children. So most probably if vampires would exist, as predatory creatures, wouldn't be much stronger than your average human. They must be fast to surprise their victim, as any predator is and surprise and stealth would be their chosen strategy. Enhanced vision, smell and hearing would be a good assumption too, considering the solitary life and the fact they won't feed on anything else but blood. Prolonged life would probably help train and perfect these traits to scary good skills. For me, that makes it scary enough. All the polymorph and mind powers would be probably exaggerated or based on fear assessed conclusions.
Sorry for the long vampirism essay but I hope this helps with some of your question. :D

Well, if you have a hold person spell and a knife, clean bloodletting isn't a problem anymore. :D
Great pic, although removing the dagger was a little bit too much. ^^ Why shouldn't a vampire stab his target and then, when they are helpless, drain their blood?

A vampire had his/her own hold person and hypnotize spells, so a dagger would be a bit superfluous when hunting mortals. It might be useful against other vampires 'tho (depending on what the dagger is made of. :)
