Solen is my latest d&d character portrait commission. Although he is a cleric, he is still a fisherman at heart, enjoying long trips at sea and keeping around a fisherman like spear, maybe in remembrance of his former tool of trade. Background is just a sketch up since that's the level the client commissioned for this one.

Your tonal work has always been very good but this pic is particularly well executed, the hands, his cheek bone, the ruffles on his cloak, brilliant.

Thank you. I did tried something different with the illumination on this one and it seems to pay off.

I get the feeling that he would be just as comfortable with a spear in hand as he would a staff. =)

He probably already does that by using his spear as a staff most of the time and use it as a weapon if needed or as a fisherman's spear if he feels like fishing. :)

I love the blend of a priestly look and a definite fisherman look as well! And the light shading hinted as well as the background gestured in! Very wonderful piece!

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoy it :) I could have done much more with it but my work and payment are organized by levels and the client chose a certain level of commission. Thus the background remained in a sketch stage while the robes were kept simple and unadorned 'tho I'm sure I've could have do some nice models on them.

Well, even so, I think the overall effect was really nice and had a definite charm to it all its own :D
